Description
Welcome to Women in Nature Day (W.I.N.D.)! This is a day of spending time with like-minded outdoor women while learning from a collaboration of local organizations! Enjoy a fun social followed by nature inspired sessions of your choice! Afterwards, we will all head out to explore nature together and learn from each other. All participants must be 18 years old or older.
Meet at the dining hall at the Iowa Lakeside Lab. From there, we will split into our groups after the evening social.
Cost is $25 and includes lunch and a t-shirt (if registered before January 10th).
Schedule:
9-9:30 AM- Welcome and Social
9:30-10:15 AM- Session 1 (Choose 1 of the following)
Option 1: Your Path Through a Dichotomous Key
Demystify the art of identification by learning how to use a dichotomous key, with hands-on practice identifying trees.
Option 2: Winter Nature Photography
Learn simple tips and tricks for taking beautiful winter photos using just your phone! We’ll explore how to make your images shine, then head outside together to capture the quiet beauty of the season.
10:15-10:30 AM- Break
10:30-11:15 AM- Session 2 (Choose 1 of the following)
Option 1: Basket Weaving
Learn the basics of basket weaving in a relaxed, hands-on session. You’ll create your own simple basket to take home and enjoy.
Option 2: Mindful Hammocking
The program where relaxation meets tree-supported levitation. Nestle into a hammock, sway with the wind, and learn how to clear your mind without a single “ommmm” required. It’s peaceful, it’s grounding, and it’s the closest you can get to being a gently swinging burrito of calm.
11:15 AM-12 PM- Lunch (soup, salad, dessert)
12-1 PM- Group Activity
Winter Wander
Join us for a relaxed winter wander where we soak in frosty views and enjoy the simple joy of being outside. Snowshoes will be provided if we have enough snow.
