Free Show – All Ages Iowa’s premier water quality event this summer in the Iowa Great Lakes will culminate with prestigious musical acts on stage, The Wallflowers with special guest The Nadas Dylan has been a prolific songwriter for 30 years, fusing his rock ‘n roll roots with introspective lyrics and a hard-hitting delivery. Though the bulk of his career has been spent playing with a band, he has also stepped outside that setting with solo work and collaborations with such artists as Eric Clapton, Beck, Neil Young and Fiona Apple. Exit Wounds is The Wallflowers newest album, a long-anticipated release. Dylan surrounds himself with a new cast of musicians – artists he had always wanted to play with or who had performed with him in the past – on this beautifully crafted record. Dylan invited a special guest – the gifted Shelby Lynne – to lend her signature singing to three tracks. Of her vocals Dylan says: “She has one of those voices that is very uncommon, very unique, very rare.” As the album’s title would imply, it is an ode to people from all walks of life who, individually or collectively, have fought through issues. Exit Wounds was written at a tumultuous time in the world, and Dylan’s songs and lyrics reflect the whole range of emotions in dealing with them, from anxiety to panic and ultimately to hope. Even after three decades as a songwriter, singer and guitarist, Dylan feels that he still has a lot to say through his music. “I came up in an era of great rock ‘n roll bands making great music” he says, “and it’s the way I always imagined I would do it one day.” It is a vision that has remained steadfast with The Wallflowers through the years. “It’s something I started a long time ago, and it’s far from finished.”
