Description
Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host a Safe Mushroom Foraging workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 26 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Dickinson County Nature Center. The free program is for anyone interested in learning more about identifying and foraging local mushrooms.
The one-hour program will focus on safe mushroom foraging and provide information about upcoming morel certification trainings being offered.
“Foraging and consumer awareness is important because there are always risks associated with consuming wild mushrooms,” said Madeleine Bretey-Smith, ag program coordinator with ISU Extension and Outreach. “We’re hoping this workshop helps those interested learn more about identification, foraging safety, distinguishing between edible and non-edible varieties and best practices for harvesting.”
Participants will also receive a Safe Mushroom Foraging book published by Iowa State University.
Participation in the Safe Mushroom Foraging workshop is free but limited to the first 30 registrants. To preregister or for more information, call the ISU Extension and Outreach Dickinson County office at 712-336-3488.
