Thursday, February 27, 2025 (6:30 PM - 8:00 PM) (CST)
Description
Step back in time at the Lakes Area Museum Alliance (LAMA) Night at the Museum on Thursday, February 27, from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at the Dickinson County Museum, 1708 Keokuk Ave., Spirit Lake. This family-friendly evening brings local history to life through stories and local lore for all ages. Meet Fred Gilbert, a world-famous trapshooter from the early 20th century who always called Spirit Lake 'home.' Hear stories of his early days hunting in Dickinson County and his friendship with John Philip Sousa. L.F. Williamz, whose exceptional photography documented our early history, will share how he captured the golden age of life in the area and marketed his artistic images as postcards sent near and far. Visit with Abbie Gardner Sharp, a master storyteller who shared her stories with visitors to her cabin - but only if you paid 25 cents. Bring your quarter to hear Abbie share a story or two of her amazing life. Visitors can also explore the museum's new ice harvesting exhibit and video about this lost occupation, plus get an exclusive first look at updates and final plans for the historic 1883 Milwaukee Depot restoration project.1708 Keokuk Ave
